Staff Recognition Policy and Procedure

Purpose

 Channel Islands values diversity as an essential condition for achieving institutional  excellence. Our University thrives on the talents drawn from a diverse workforce and believes that a climate of respect, and a commitment to equity and inclusivity allows employees to perform to their maximum potential, as such, an employee who demonstrates integrity and service to the University community shall be awarded. 

This award has been created to recognize the outstanding contributions of staff members. The purpose of the President's Staff Award of Excellence is to recognize personal contributions to the CSU Channel Islands campus community, including:

  1. Job Performance 
  2. Commitment to the Spirit of Diversity 
  3. Support for University Mission Pillars 
  4. Contributions to an Area’s Efficiency & Productivity 
  5. Commitment to One Health & CI’s Vision for the Future 
  6. Cumulative Years of Service (provided by HR) 

This award will be granted annually. 

Eligibility

To be eligible for nomination, the individual must be a permanent, non-MPP (non-Management Personnel Plan) staff member at 91ÊÓƵ – this includesConfidential and Auxiliary employees.Faculty, MPPs, temporary employees, and student assistants are not eligible.

Nomination Procedure

Any campus community member can nominate a staff member, including other staff, managers, faculty, and students. Any single staff member may be nominated multiple times by different community colleagues.

The deadline to submit nominations for the 2024 President's Staff Award for Excellence has passed. Stay tuned for the next award cycle in 2025.

Selection Committee

The Nomination Review Committee consists of a representative of each division for five members. Members of the Nomination ReviewCommittee will review the nominations according to predetermined criteria and according to rating procedures established by the Staff Council Executive Board, before submitting finalists to the Office of the President. Award

The awardee will receive the following:

  • Award of $1,000 (minus payroll taxes) 
  • An invitation to speak at the President’s Fall 2024 Convocation 
  • Lunch and photo with President Yao 
  • Acknowledgement on the Staff Council website 
  • A letter of award
