Follow the instructions below as part of your laboratory safety training. This training is in three parts:
- An on-line training covering standard safe lab procedures and practices
- CI specific safety information
- Laboratory specific hazards and safety information will also be provided by your professor when you begin work
Do items 1, 2 and 3 below, print the required forms for each and deliver them to your program coordinator.
1) On-line Training
The following link provides access to the course, "CSU Laboratory Safety Fundamentals," provided by CSU. It will introduce you to common risks including biological, chemical and radiological, that are found in research laboratories. The course also covers waste handling procedures and methods to minimize risks from common physical hazards.
- Follow this link , log into "MyCI", and then select "Launch"
- After course completion print your course completion certificate.
*After fully completing the initial Course, you may take the Refresher annually.
2) CI Specific Safety Information
Read the information in the following link, CI Specific Safety Information (, 362 KB) then print the page and sign it.
3) Laboratory Specific Hazard Training
The Principal Investigator or laboratory manager must assess hazards in their laboratory, devise reasonable hazard mitigation measures, and convey this information to entities under their supervision. Safety training shall be documented on the form provided in Appendix F of the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Once you have completed 1, 2 and 3 above, please take the on-line course completion certificate and the signed "CI Specific Safety Information" and "Laboratory Safety Training Documentation" forms to your program coordinator. Thank you.

Research Volunteers only laboratory training, follow the instructions below as part of your laboratory safety training.
