CSU Channel Islands (91ÊÓƵ) is proud to support the state of California’s goal to transition to Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) to reduce air pollution and combat climate change.
A8 Parking Lot EV Charging Project
To aid in the transition to electric vehicles, 91ÊÓƵ is participating in Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Charge Ready Program. The Charge Ready Program provides financial incentives, expansion of infrastructure, and technical support to facilitate the installation and maintenance of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Through this program, 91ÊÓƵ will install 30 new EV charging stalls in the A8 parking lot located behind the Broome Library.
These charging stations will be installed through partnership with SCE. SCE will coordinate
and pay for installation of the necessary electrical infrastructure to power the charging
stations. The campus will then install the charging hardware. This project began in
July 2024, with a target completion date of early 2025.
The parking spaces in the A8 Lot will be unavailable for the duration of construction, along with the book drop located at the back of the library. You can still return books at the book drop in the A/E Lot in front of the library or inside. The A/E and A6 Lots will remain open and available for designated parking.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why was the A8 parking lot chosen for this project?
The location for this project was determined in consultation with 91ÊÓƵ's energy manager, parking services, and Southern California Edison. An essential factor for installing electric vehicle charging stations is proximity to available power. The A8 parking lot was the most feasible location for this project due to the availability of power, the permanence of the parking lot, and the number of available spaces. Other parking lots considered were either too far from available power, slated for future buildings, or were too small to accommodate the number of charging stalls required for this program.
Will there be a cost to use the EV charging stations?
Yes, the new EV charging stations in the A8 parking lot will require payment for use. The stations will use the EV Connect network. Download the to setup your account and be ready to charge your car with ease.
Why will there be a cost to use the EV charging stations?
The EV charging stations are being purchased and maintained by Transportation and Parking Services. Since they are a full cost recovery unit, users will be charged to cover the cost of electricity consumed at the charging stations.
When will the charging stations be available?
The project will start this July, with an anticipated completion date of December 2024.
Will there be a time limit on the charging stations in the A8 Lot?
No, there will not be a time limit on the charging stations in the A8 Lot. However, vehicles parked in the charging stalls must be actively charging. Once your vehicle is done charging there will be a 30-minute idle period allowed before additional idle fees will be charged. An electric vehicle cannot be parked at one of the charging stations if it is not plugged in.
What will be the charging speed of the new stations in the A8 Lot?
The charging stations in the A8 Lot will provide 9.6 kW of power. This means they should provide a slightly faster charge than the stations currently available on campus. The speed of charge will vary based upon your vehicle and power available at the charging stations.
Where are the other charging stations on campus?
EV charging stations are currently available in the G8 parking lot (2 plugs), A1 parking lot (2 plugs), and the A3 parking lot (5 plugs). These stations are all available for free EV charging. Once the A8 parking lot project is complete, the chargers in the G8 and A1 parking lots will be reserved for fleet charging only.
